Arms manufacturer Friedrich Alfred Krupp dies of a stroke at the age of 48 in Villa Hügel, Bredeney, Essen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

The official cause of death was a stroke but more probably Krupp committed suicide after the Italian Propaganda and German Vorwärts and Augsburger Postzeitung newspapers published articles revealing his homosexual escapades with young Italian boys in his 'Congrega di Fra Felice' holiday house in Capri, Italy.

Writer Aldous Leonard Huxley known for his dystopian novel Brave New World dies of an overdose of LSD at the age of 69 in Los Angeles, California, United States.

On his deathbed, suffering from laryngeal cancer and unable to speak, Huxley made a written request to his wife Laura for "LSD, 100 µg, intramuscular". According to her account of his death in 'This Timeless Moment', she obliged with an injection at 11:45 am and a second dose a few hours later. Huxley died at 5:20 pm.
