(-) 25 years ago He Was Sparked Friday 4th of May 1990 Alleged cop killer Jesse Joseph Tafero is executed by Old Sparky at the age of 44 in Florida State Prison, 7819 N.W. 228th Street, Raiford, Florida, United States. 'Old Sparky' malfunctioned, causing six-inch flames to shoot out of Tafero's head. A member of the execution team had used a synthetic sponge rather than a sea sponge which is necessary to provide greater conductivity and a quick death. One close inmate friend of Tafero later said he could smell the burning flesh of his friend for days after.
