(-) 194 years ago He Became a Book Cover Monday 11th of August 1828 Murderer William Corder aka The Red Barn Murderer is executed by hanging by John Foxton at the age of 25 in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, United Kingdom. Corder's body was taken back to the courtroom at Shire Hall where it was slit open along the abdomen to expose the muscles, over 5,000 people queued to see it. Corder's skin was tanned by surgeon George Creed and used to bind an account of the murder.

(x) 44 years ago Friday 11th of August 1978 40-year-old Medical photographer Janet Parker is accidently infected by a mislaid sample of the smallpox virus in University of Birmingham Medical School, Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom. Parker was placed in quarantaine in the Catherine-de-Barnes Isolation Hospital near Solihull on 20 August and died there on 11 September. Many people had close contact with Parker before she was admitted to hospital, 260 people were being immediately quarantined. Parker became the last person to die of smallpox.
