32-year-old Writer and playwright Samuel Barclay Beckett known for Waiting for Godot is stabbed in the chest and nearly killed when he refused the solicitations of a notorious pimp who went by the name of Prudent in Paris, Île-de-France, France.

At a preliminary hearing Beckett asked his attacker for the motive behind the stabbing. Prudent replied: "Je ne sais pas, Monsieur. Je m'excuse". Beckett eventually dropped the charges against his attacker.

Carroll Jackson, his wife Mildred and their daughters 18-month-old Janet and 4-year-old Susan are killed by 26-year-old Serial killer Melvin Davis Rees aka The Sex Beast in Fredericksburg, Virginia, United States.

On 4 March two men gathering brush discovered the decomposing body of Jackson in a ditch. He had been shot in the back of the head. His hands were also tied behind his back. Upon recovering the body, police discovered that Carroll had been dumped over that of eighteen-month-old Janet; it was later determined that the child had been dumped alive in the ditch before her father, and had suffocated under the weight of his body. On 21 March the bodies of Mildred and Susan were discovered in a forest near Annapolis showing signs of torture and pre-mortem sexual assault.

Composer Rezső Seress, originally Rudolf 'Rudi' Spitzer known for Szomorú Vasárnap (Gloomy Sunday) commits suicide by jumping from the window of his apartment at the age of 69 in Budapest, Central Hungary, Hungary.

Seress actually survived jumping out of his window, but later in the hospital choked himself to death with a wire. His song 'Szomorú Vasárnap (Gloomy Sunday)' sparked a worldwide wave of suicides in 1933.

20-year-old Performance artist Danny Devos aka DDV performs 'Installation - 1' in Koninklijke Akademie voor Schone Kunsten, Berouw, Gent, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

During a party I made an installation at the entrance with wooden walls and a wooden floor. I lay under the floor, supporting the wood with my body. My head and chest were visible through a window in the floor. Before I had inflicted wounds on my head and chest. After 3 hours I stopped because some spectators were reacting too aggressive.
