(-) 97 years ago Saturday 17th of November 1917 Artist Auguste François René Rodin dies of influenza at the age of 77 in Meudon, Île-de-France, France. Rodin requested permission to stay in the Hotel Biron, a museum of his works, because he had no heating in his villa but the director of the museum refused to let him stay there.

(-) 78 years ago Tuesday 17th of November 1936 Actor John Bowers, originally John E. Bowersox commits suicide by drowning at the age of 51 in Malibu Beach, Malibu, California, United States. A deputy sheriff friend identified the body and disclosed that the actor had declared his intention to commit suicide by getting into a boat and "sailing away into the sunset."

(x) 64 years ago Friday 17th of November 1950 26-year-old Spree killer Ernest Ernie Ingenito guns down nine members of his family in Piney Hollow Road, Franklin Township, New Jersey, United States. At about 8 p.m. Ingenito armed himself with a Luger, a Mauser C96, and a .32 caliber rifle and drove to his 21-year-old ex-wife Theresa Mazzoli's house. He shot Theresa and his father-in-law Michael. When his mother-in-law Pearl fled across the street to her parent's home, Ingenito followed and shot her mother Theresa Pioppi in the doorway, then stepped over her body to shoot and kill his wife's pregnant aunt Marion Pioppi. He wounded his wife's nine-year-old cousin Jeannie, then shot and killed Pearl Mazzoli who tried to hide in a closet. Ingenito also killed Pearls's brother John who had chased after Ingenito with a knife. Ingenito continued his killing spree, driving to Minotola where Theresa's aunt and uncle Frank and Hilda Mazzoli lived. He shot both of them in front of their two younger children. Although critically wounded both survived.

(-) 34 years ago Monday 17th of November 1980 Jacqueline Hill is stabbed to death by serial killer Peter Sutcliffe aka The Yorkshire Ripper in Alma Road, Headingley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Hill was Sutcliffe's last known victim. "I pulled Miss Hill's clothes off, most of them. I had a screwdriver on me, I think it had a yellow handle and a bent blade. I stabbed her in her lungs. Her eyes were wide open and she seemed to be looking at me with an accusing stare. This shook me up a bit, I jabbed the screwdriver into her eye but they stayed open, and I felt worse than ever. I left her lying on her back with her feet towards the entrance. I think she was dead when I left."

(-) 28 years ago Monday 17th of November 1986 Double murderer John Dale Cavaness aka Doc commits suicide by hanging at the age of 61 in Missouri State Penitentiary, 115 Lafayette Street, Jefferson, Missouri, United States. Cavaness killed his two sons to collect insurance money.

(-) 16 years ago Tuesday 17th of November 1998 Serial killer Kenneth Allen McDuff aka The Broomstick Murderer is executed by lethal injection at the age of 52 in Huntsville Prison, 815 12th Street, Huntsville, Texas, United States. McDuff's final meal according to death row chef Brian Price was a hamburger fashioned to resemble his request of a steak.
