Revolutionary politician, philosopher and writer Donatien Alphonse François de Sade aka Marquis de Sade dies of pulmonary edema at the age of 74 in Hôpital Esquirol, Saint-Maurice, Charenton, Val-de-Marne, France.

Sade had left instructions in his will forbidding that his body be opened for any reason whatsoever and that it remain untouched for 48 hours in the chamber in which he died, and then placed in a coffin and buried on his property located in Malmaison near Épernon.

Kessel was with Robert Cannon the first man to die in the Gas Chamber. Kessel's death took 15 and a half minutes.

Multiple murderer Robert Lee Cannon is executed by the gas chamber at the age of 29 in San Quentin State Prison, San Quentin, California, United States.

Cannon was with Albert Kessel the first man to die in the Gas Chamber. Cannon's death took 12 minutes.

Comedian and actor Marty Martin Alan Feldman dies of a heart attack at the age of 48 in Hotel Camino Real, Mariano Escobedo 700, Mexico City, Mexico.

On the day before Feldman and Michael Mileham had swam to a small island in a lake in Mexico City where a local was selling lobster and coconuts. Mileham claimed he got shellfish poisoning which also caused Feldman's death. Mel Brooks added that "smoking sometimes 5 packs of cigarettes daily, drinking copious amounts of black coffee, and a diet rich in eggs and dairy products" may have contributed to Feldman's death.
