Murderess Emeline Lucy Meaker is executed by hanging at the age of 45 in State Prison, 546 State Farm Road, Windsor, Vermont, United States.

Meaker was the first woman to be legally executed in Vermont. On the morning of her execution Meaker ate a large beefsteak, three potatoes, a slice of bread and butter, a piece of meat pie, and a cup of coffee. Then she went to view the gallows and remarked that it was not half as bad as she thought it would be. She ate a lunch consisting of two boiled eggs, two slices of toast, one potato, one doughnut, and a cup of coffee.

The victims were his 65-year-old mother Charity, his 42-year-old brother Leonard II, his 38-year-old sister-in-law Alma and their children 17-year-old Leonard Jr., 16-year-old Michael, 15-year-old Thomas, 13-year-old Carol, 12-year-old Ann, 11-year-old David, 9-year-old Teresa and 4-year-old John.

In December 1682 Oshichi fell in love with temple page Ikuta Shōnosuke during the great fire at Shōsen-in. The next year she attempted arson, thinking she could meet him again if another fire occurred.

Kemmler was sentenced to death and became the first man to be executed by use of the electric chair, a device invented in 1881 by Buffalo dentist Alfred Southwick which, after nine years of development and legislation, was ready for use.

On the location where the so-called 'Strangler of the Left Bank' committed a murder, I was hanging upside down between four trees. To my arms and legs I tied small hatchets and I pulled a plastic bag over my head. I hung there as long as I could. The performance was inspired by an ever recurring nightmare by the 'Strangler', with whom I kept an intense correspondence for several years.
