Start of the trial against 52-year-old Serial killer Henri Désiré Landru aka Le Barbe-Bleue de Gambais in 3 Place André Mignot, Versailles, Île-de-France, France.

Among the audience of Landru's trial were actors Mistinguette and Maurice Chevalier, writer Colette and a huge number of women from the bourgeoisie. Special trains known as the 'Landru Spécial' were run from Paris Invalides station to arrive in Versailles in time for the hearings. "Une exhibition de fourrures, chinchillas et zibelines, des bras nus, des poitrines décolletées; des chairs nacrées, des colliers de perles, des lèvres trop rouges réprimant mal des petits rires fusants; un public venu là poussé par une sorte d'attirance morbide; la Cour d'assises a l'aspect  pittoresque d'un dancing."
