(x) 75 years ago Sunday 3rd of September 1939 25-year-old Aristocratic socialite and devotee of Adolf Hitler Unity Valkyrie Mitford attempts to commit suicide by a shot in the head when she hears her lover declare war to the United Kingdom in Englischer Garten, München, Bayern, Germany. Surviving the suicide attempt Mitford was hospitalised in München where she was visited by Hitler despite the on-going war. Hitler paid her bills and arranged for Mitford's return home.

(-) 32 years ago Friday 3rd of September 1982 General of the Italian carabinieri Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiese is shot dead with his 32-year-old bride of less than two months, Emanuela Setti Carraro and his police bodyguard, Domenico Russo by the Mafia at the age of 60 in Via Carini, Palermo, Sicilia, Italy. The murder was ordered by Mafia boss Salvatore Riina. The lead killer was Giuseppe Greco, who was later convicted in absentia of the crime at the Maxi Trial. A number of other gunmen were involved, including 21-year-old Giuseppe Lucchese, who was also convicted of the crime at the Maxi Trial. Riina and various other Mafia bosses, such as Benedetto Santapaola, were subsequentl y convicted for ordering the killing.
